This isn't the handicap it once was and the latest renewal disadvantaged those who tried to come from any way off the pace, but the first 3 home are all really likeable 4-y-os, the all-the-way winner seen to maximum effect and the favourite in third not seen to best effect in attempting to come from further back than the pair that beat him.

LIBERTY COACH got back on the up as he notched his fourth success from his last 6 starts, seen to good effect from the front in a race where nothing threatened to get competitive from off the pace, though the timefigure and sectionals still suggest this constitutes an improved performance; made all, ridden over 2f out, tackled final 1f, had nothing to spare; he's likeable, though the placed pair are probably better short-term prospects for further handicap success.

SEE THAT STORM (IRE) improved further without it quite being enough to make it 5 on the bounce, just unable to overhaul the all-the-way winner; handy, headway over 2f out, every chance final 1f, ran on; he's really likeable and is set for high-end handicaps before much longer, doubtful we've seen the limit of what he can do just yet.

SIR LOWRY'S wasn't seen to best effect from 7 lb higher than at Goodwood and it shouldn't be assumed he can't defy this sort of mark another day, attempting to come from further back than the pair that beat him and still try to 1½m, too; mid-field, headway under pressure over 2f out, stayed on; remains capable of better.

BORN RULER without usual headgear, had a hopeless task from the position he found himself in and surely remains in good form; dwelt, raced well off the pace, pushed along over 4f out, nearest at the finish.

LORD PROTECTOR (GER) was rather out of his pay grade and his tardy starts are becoming a bit of a concern; slowly into stride, mid-field, shaken up over 3f out, one paced.

PENZANCE again ran below form on turf, despite being better placed than plenty; chased leaders, shaken up 3f out, not quicken, left behind gradually.

QITAAL ran one of lesser races; chased leader, shaken up over 3f out, beaten over 2f out.

CRACKING GOLD was trying this far for the first time and, without his usual headgear, can have this run overlooked; steadied at the start, held up, never involved.

APPROVAL hasn't looked straightforward on either start this season and it's maybe worth giving headgear a try; held up, hung right approaching straight, pushed along after, never involved.

ROMIEU disappointed after 11 days off, possibly finding the race coming too soon and the longer trip seeming incidental; mid-field, labouring over 3f out, eased off.
